Wedding Planning Tips

Oh, what to wear, what to wear?

lake-front-wedding-dress-1You have your partner, the date is set, the venue is booked…now, oh what to wear?! Choosing a wedding dress is something that brides dream about for YEARS.

What to wear for your Lake Tahoe Wedding

That moment when you say YES to the dress is a highlight of any wedding journey and a moment a Bride will remember forever.

Heading into 2016, the trends are shifting from 2015’s edgy criss cross beading and ruching drama  and tulle to romantic lace and color. Curvy silhouettes, dramatic details and bold lace styles are all over the runways. Brides tend to be in search of more non-traditional dresses or something classic with a WOW factor.

Lake Tahoe is a haven for outdoor weddings so some extra thought needs to go into planning what to wear, but just about any attire can fit!  You just have to take into consideration what the wedding venue aisle will be…the forest, the beach or grassy knoll.

Here are some photos we’ve pulled of popular dress styles  for 2016:

what-to-wear-at-your-wedding

Okay, so it’s not all about the dress

Don’t forget about the guys! Grooms will be looking very dapper in prints, vests, and textured suits. Couples are choosing to steer clear of the usual black suit and are going for more blues, greys and neutrals when selecting the attire for the guys.

They key to choosing your attire for your wedding day is to make sure you feel AMAZING in whatever you are wearing.

Eat, Drink and Be Married – Your Destination Wedding Checklist

Lake Tahoe Weddings | Country Club | Lawn Beach

Lake Tahoe Weddings | Country Club | Lawn BeachWhat makes a wedding, a destination one? A wedding is considered to be a destination wedding when the location is in a vacation-like setting where guests are required to travel outside of a 100-mile radius and most likely stay for a few days.

Destination Wedding

As one of Tahoe’s top destination wedding planners, we often get asked “What do we need to do now?” or “Do we have enough time?”. Destination wedding planning is very time sensitive from choosing the venue, to lodging options, to flight and travel arrangements.

Overall, we typically recommend giving yourself 12-18 months in advance when planning a destination wedding. When planning, there are a few important things to consider:

1) Location – How far do your guests have to travel?
2) Seasons – If you are looking into a location like Tahoe, take seasons into consideration, do you want a wintery wonderland? Or a warm, beachy lakefront wedding?
3) How far are your guests travelling? The further the distance, the further out they will want to book flights for the best rates.

Below, you will find a recommend timeline for destination weddings!

Why hire a professional wedding planner in Lake Tahoe?

0005_Ehrman MansionCongratulations, you’re getting married in Lake Tahoe! You said “yes” and may have even set the date, and now you’re looking to have your wedding in beautiful Lake Tahoe. Many of us are well organized and good planners and think we are invincible!  Of course we are, but there are some times to leave planning to others, and that is with your wedding in Lake Tahoe.  There are so many details to be taken care of when you have a destination wedding, and most of the time the bride and groom don’t live very close to the lake so it is wise to leave those details to the trained, professional wedding planner

Here are some reasons why a planner is so beneficial, especially those at Lake Front Wedding and Events.

A wedding planner knows all about the local vendors

Wedding coordinators have worked with all the local vendors, which has some fabulous perks for you.Jumping-Wedding-Photographer

  • They will be able to give you personal testimonies on a variety of vendors.
  • They can tel you which well-known vendors can work within your budget.

These two reasons alone save you time researching all the different caterers, florists and photographer,  as well as making you privy to some behind the scenes details you can’t find out from Yelp.

We are here to help you plan your wedding in Lake Tahoe and have a lot of fabulous photographers to choose from.

You have someone to help you stick to the budget

One of the hardest aspects of coordinating your wedding is money. First you have to decide what the overall budget is. Then you have to decide the budget for each category. A wedding coordinator is basically the event financial advisor. An extra perk is the connections they have with local vendors as stated above. They will have a good idea right off the bat how much you will be spending in each area and how the money can be handled. For example, they can tell you which vendors are ok with taking payments and which ones need to be paid up front in order to secure products and services.

Lake Tahoe Wedding Cakes | Lake Front WeddingYou don’t have to stress about forgotten details

One of the main aspects of a wedding coordinators job are the details! Wedding checklists can be lengthy, think several pages long. So if you are worried you might forget something, it’s justified. Luckily, wedding details are something coordinator knows like the back of their own hands. They can not only help remind you what needs to be done, but when. They will be aware of the deadlines so you don’t have to stress and worry about something falling through the cracks.

You need help making the day of your dreams a reality

This is truly the favorite part of a wedding coordinators job and why they are in business. So much goes into creating an event specific to two people. Each couple has a style that represents them and a wedding should do the same. Coordinators know all the latest trends as well as the floor plan of each venue so they can easily help you bring the wedding you have visualized in your mind to life. From the style, to the mood, to the venue and everything in between, a coordinator will know exactly how to make your wedding worthy of Pinterest.

Most importantly, they take care of everything so you can enjoy your Lake Tahoe Wedding

Making a wedding day perfect takes a lot of hard work and time. Keep in mind the old saying “Practice makes perfect”. A wedding coordinator has executed a wedding multiple times and therefore will be able to make sure your day goes off without a hiccup so you can get hitched with no issues. You deserve to have a day that is all about the love you and your spouse to be have for each other.  With so many details happening behind the scenes to make that happen, it can take away from being able to enjoy every second of your wedding day.

A First Look at 2016 Lake Tahoe Wedding Trends

lake-front-wedding-peterson-diggsIt is still early, but many of our couples are planning their 2016 wedding so its time to take a look at Lake Tahoe wedding trends.  The first new trends always come out with the revealing of the wedding dresses by top designers, but what are t

he other trends on the horizon? Pinterest is always a great way to search for ideas, so start your boards early and start pinning!

Short Engagements

A destination wedding in Lake Tahoe is the perfect remedy for a short engagement!  We can find you a venue on the beach, at an estate, or country club, or overlooking the lake…most can accommodate a quick time frame with little planning time. Mid-week wedding days are perfect for our more popular venues.

Some of our more popular “short engagement” wedding venues in Lake Tahoe include Emerald Bay, our intimate c indoor/outdoor chapel, the beach front lawn and the Gondola.

Be Unique

Never be afraid to add the special touches that are important to you and your soon-to-be. Just because everyone else is doing something in their wedding, do what you want! Use Pinterest for general ideas, but then let the creativity from inside you emerge!

Add a “guesterly” book prior to the wedding, a keepsake before you even say “I Do!” Work with your Lake Tahoe wedding planner, a professional designer or your creative friends to come up with a new design that is representative of you as a couple.

Craft Cocktails

Do you have a favorite cocktail? Why not share that with your guests. If you don’t have a bartender at your reception, you can still make this happen with a table set up with all of the ingredients (and if real unusual, add a little card with directions or pre-measured portions all set up).

If your budget allows, bring in mixologists that will get the party started!lake-front-wedding-bridal-boots

Non-traditional Wedding Parties

No longer do you have to have just women on the bride side and men on the men’s side at the alter. You can have brothers and sisters standing up with their siblings,  include older (or younger) people as there is no age requirement for a bridal party. With an ever changing world, many people have other genders as those they want to honor with a position at the front. You can even forgo the traditional party and invite all of your friends with you on your journey.

Technology

There is no avoiding the internet, apps, drones and smart phones for your wedding, so you might as well embrace it and control how your wedding will be technology wise. In a recent Huffington Post article, they listed the Top 10 ideas as: wearable technology, drones, a go-pro in your wedding bouquet, 3-D printed wedding cake decor, selfies and self-charging stations, crowdsourcing the dance floor, light projections on the wedding cake, “Periscoping” the wedding, and exits from the ceremony in a driver-less car.

While tech weddings aren’t for everyone, embrace it if this is already a part of your life!

  • Drones – Not only can a drone take some fabulous photos from above your wedding, why not have one deliver your wedding rings to your outdoor alter?  They aren’t allowed at all venues in Lake Tahoe, but we can find out who would accept them!
  • Go-Pro – Placed inside your wedding bouquet you can record everything just as you see it on your big day! It will record shots in front of the middle, as you gaze upon your groom or as you hit the dance floor…anywhere your flowers go, the camera goes.
  • Selfies – You know your guests are going to do this, especially with Lake Tahoe as such a fabulous backdrop. Have some inexpensive selfie sticks around and chargers to keep your guests all charged up for the wedding from beginning to end.
  • Tracking – Your FitBit or iWatch can track your steps
  • Periscope – Livestream your wedding, perfect for those on your guest list that couldn’t make it. Have someone in the front row use their iPod to record everything.
  • So many other ideas, what are you favorites?

If you don’t want people standing up in front of the rest of your guests to grab that photo (and many stand in front of the photographer mountain-view-wedding-6you’ve hired!), tell guests at the beginning that the ceremony is a camera free zone.  Have someone designated for the social media queen (or king) and have them share all special moments on instagram, facebook or where ever else people are. This person can tag everyone so they get their shots too!

Great decor for your Fall wedding in Lake Tahoe

fall weddings in lake tahoe

fall weddings in lake tahoe We love weddings 12 months a year, but there is something special about Lake Tahoe weddings in the Fall!

Colors for your fall wedding in Lake Tahoe

Chocolate, purple, maroon and rust are just a few of the colors that can be the base of your wedding. From here, you can decide on your wedding dress, flowers,  bridesmaids, table decor and whatever other things you want during your wedding ceremony.

Autumnal mix of flowers can include orange, yellow, brown and white. The flower bouquets can also be full of acorns, pinecones and leaves.

Fall is the time you can mix color you wouldn’t otherwise consider for your wedding:  Red and Purple, Crimson and Gold, Orange and Brown, Cream and Wine, Orange Brown and Purple, Red Purple and Cream.

Decorations

Fall decorations are abundant with lots of great ideas to have in your wedding and reception in Lake Tahoe. Here are a few: pumpkins, Historical Valhalla Wedding Venue in Lake Tahoearches of willow and birch, hay, cornstalks, candles, anything about nature, barnwood, rustic, bales of hay and other western touches. You can incorporate as little, or as much as you wish!

You can even add a little bit of Halloween with a Trick or treat candy buffet with caramel apples in lieu of a traditional cake (or, have both!).

Depending on what Lake Tahoe wedding venue you choose will guide you on what kind of decorations to add.

Wedding Attire

This is where you can have a lot of fun. While fall can be many different types of dresses, it lends itself to a country theme complete with lake-front-wedding-bridal-bootscowboy boots. We’ve had a lot of fun photographing our western weddings, especially when at our historic lakefront estate. The grand hall is already fall themed with its huge rock fireplace and old, wooden wrap-around deck.

Should you embrace social media at your Lake Tahoe Wedding?

lake tahoe weddingsOnce upon a time, in a land far away, the photos of weddings came weeks after the ceremony and the only ones who knew what was going on were the carefully selected guests.

If you’ve been to a wedding in 2015, chances are that everyone knows what happened and how it looked by the time the bride and groom say “I do.” It’s all about Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter, and photos and comments made from the guests hit the internet almost instantly.

Embrace social media at your Lake Tahoe wedding, or not?

You know it will happen, so why not be proactive on the use of social media at your wedding in Lake Tahoe? Have fun with it.

In a recent study they found that the average guest shares 22 photos of the event on social media sites, and 40 percent of those surveyed said social media use was encouraged and a specific wedding hashtag was provided.

Half of guests said they had “checked in” to a wedding on sites like Facebook and Foursquare and 70 percent of Twitter-using guests tweeted about the event while in attendance. When it comes to photo-sharing, 76 percent of guests posted to Facebook and 54 percent used Instagram.

Of course, there are some negative aspects to this trend, such as these eager photographers getting in the way of your professional shots, people who weren’t invited feeling left out because of all the photos being posted by their friends.

During your wedding, you know its going to happen unless you ask people to shut their phones off during the ceremony. This will be hard because of all the social media happy people, but the same survey found that 33 percent of wedding guests were asked to not use a mobile device during the wedding while another 65 percent said you should ask the newlyweds before posting pictures. They may want the professional shots only released, after all, it’s their money being spent on a photographer and it’s their wedding.

Clever ways couples have used social media

Forty percent of wedding guests said social media posts were encouraged at weddings they attended in the last year. Here are some ideas of what to do in order to encourage posting, or to ask guests to refrain:

Trends this fall for Lake Tahoe weddings

The historic estate wedding venue has great spots for your photos. Can you believe fall is almost here? Our Lake Tahoe weddings this summer were fabulous but there are great reasons to get married in one of the world’s most beautiful spots this fall. In our next article we’ll talk about the top 10 reasons but here we’ll concentrate on what fabulous trends you can bring into your Lake Tahoe wedding.

Trends for Fall Lake Tahoe Weddings

The colors of fall are fabulous for weddings. Imagine the plethora of ways you can incorporate the beautiful hues of golds, greens and browns into your wedding ceremony and reception.

lake tahoe fall weddings

Once you pick your color, whether its one of these from Pantone, or something else, you can start creating your harmonized fall wedding.

Western weddings continue to be hot, and all of our Lake Tahoe wedding venues can provide you with this theme. Another bonus: western weddings are perfect with the fall color scheme! There are great choices of fall flowers as well.  Rustic wedding flowers pull off the fall western wedding theme perfectly. Your wedding can include hay and picnics, or just add the touches you’ve found on Pinterest.

TheKnot.com recently highlighted another new trend of “Peace, Love and Macrame” weddings. Boho-chic weddings are very popular, and this is a great them for your Lake Tahoe fall wedding.  Open field settings with bright, festive, yet earthy blasts of color and decor. New trends include hand-drawn maps with your invitations and fun, not fussy, wording on your invites (instead of “accept” write “you in?”) to really drive home your theme according to TheKnot. Add a Woodstock vibe with effortless and easy mismatched touches.

lake tahoe historic weddingsLake Tahoe weddings have never been about the church. Our couples celebrate their union under the stars, on the beach or a golf course, along the rocks of a historic estate or under the rafters where families dined over 100 years ago.  Its a good thing that the new wedding trends are calling for unique settings!  That is what we’re all about so we have this trend nailed, and not only in fall.

Another trend is for couples to head back to formal weddings with lots of opulent details. White gloves, dramatic entrances, champagne towers and big cakes are just a few of the touches that are returning. You guessed it, our versatile wedding venues in Tahoe can be home to your classic, formal wedding.
