Have a Summer Wedding in Lake Tahoe

summer weddings in lake tahoe

summer weddings in lake tahoeWant to get married in Lake Tahoe this summer?  Many dates are full since summer weddings are so popular at the lake, especially on weekends, but we have some great solutions!

Mid-Week Summer Weddings in Lake Tahoe

Is your favorite beach wedding spot already full for a Saturday wedding date?  Have you thought about moving your wedding to a Friday, Sunday or mid-week?  These dates aren’t as popular (though Fridays and Sundays will fill up soon).

What is even better, many of our summer wedding venues have lower prices Monday through Thursday! The vendors we use are the best, so they get booked too, but we’ve found that moving a wedding to mid-week gives our couples MANY more options if you’re planning your summer wedding this late in the game.

Plus, Lake Tahoe is less busy during the week, so you and your wedding party and guests can find many options for lodging and dining during their stay.

Intimate, Out-of-the-way Weddings

Most of our brides and grooms want to be married on the lake, but this also means that the lakefront wedding venues fill up first. Weekends at our historic estate and lakefront country club fill up quickly, sometimes a year in advance, lake tahoe wedding venuesbut this doesn’t mean we won’t have a great venue for you to choose from if the mid-week wedding option isn’t what you’re looking for.

Our Estate, Paradise Park or Heavenly wedding venues are fabulous options. Though not on Lake Tahoe, they aren’t far away and their views are amazing!  Emerald Bay weddings are almost always available, so that venue is a great option for a last minute or intimate wedding.

The best thing to do is call, and we’ll find out what is available for your date or venue. We even have some cancellations, so yo won’t know until you ask!

Alternative Seating for Your Wedding

weddings in lake tahoe

Who needs chairs? They are sooooo yesterday! We love Pinterest to get new ideas for our Lake Tahoe weddings and couldn’t wait to share them with you.

Alternative Seating for Your Wedding

This was a fun task, researching different types of wedding seating used at a plethora of wedding venues around the country, not just in Lake Tahoe. We have such a wide variety of venues that we offer and some of these ideas would work!  We have the park, the beach, a private home…places where chairs don’t have to be used!

weddings in lake tahoe

You’ll find above bails of hay, either covered with a cute cloth or with a plant of wood resting on top (because who wants to sit on just hay?). There are random chairs found at garage sales, benches, old church pews. blankets and pillows on the beach, beach chairs, picnic table benches and cushions.  Now that you see these ideas, are your creative juices flowing?

Seating Charts – Nothing standard about these!

weddings in lake tahoe

Love is in the air and weddings are now being planned. Each wedding in Lake Tahoe is different since every couple has their own unique perspective of what their wedding should be.

While our coordinators can help with the wedding details such as ministers, venues, photographer, reception food and get you on your schedule for the big day, there are many individual touches you’ll want to insert into your wedding and reception.

One of the ways you can make your wedding in Lake Tahoe (or anywhere else) unique is the seating chart.

Wedding Seating Charts

Here are some of our favorites:

weddings in lake tahoe

  1. Repainting an old wood frame window is all the range today, so why not incorporate it into your wedding reception? You can either free hand the writing with a marker (check with your local craft store), or, you can get stencils, peel and stick letters, or create a document on your printer and print it on translucent velum paper you can get at your stationery store.
  2. Print out directions and place in a cute frame, then make individual placecards with table assignments on them. A touch of new, and old!
  3. Drape jute or twine across an old wooden box (one you found or made) and clip on your seating arrangement. They make really cute mini-clothespins just for this type of use.
  4. Along the same thinking, but with a different twist. A wooden frame with twine attached and names clipped on.
  5. How fun would this be?  Hang all of your guests’ names on off a tree and let them find themselves!  A wedding activity in itself.
  6. An assortment of picture frames attached to a door, pallets, piece of wood (or whatever you choose), each containing a table’s seating.
  7. This seating arrangement is alphabetized …each class with a letter, contents are those who’s last name starts with that letter. Each name can be on a stir stick, flower stem, stick..whatever your heart’s desire.
  8. How perfect for your Lake Tahoe outdoor wedding!  Cut into logs and insert names of your guests.  Makes it easy when you have a last minute adjustment too!
  9. Last, but far from least, and certainly perfect for a spring wedding full of flowers. Your table seating will be posted on earth tone paper that will look like a bag of seeds…or, even use a real bag of seeds! What better way to symbolize new beginnings.  We just had a thought on this one too, so no pictures…everyone has their own bag of seeds as a wedding favor.  Create your own bags with names and wedding date, then stick all seed bags into a potted plant that represents the table.

Some of our favorite Valentine’s Day proposals

lake-front-weddings-valentine-candy-hearts

February 14 is synonymous with love, and since we’re in the business of love it seems normal to make Valentine’s Day, our day!

We thought it’d be fun to look into funny and unusual marriage proposals for Valentine’s Day.  Every year our phone starts ringing off the hook on February 15 because of all the new couples wanting to plan their Lake Tahoe wedding.

Some of our favorite Valentine’s Day proposals

There are so many proposal stories so it’s hard to pick our favorite, but we’re going to try.

How do you like our photo above of the conversation hearts?  One recent groom to be left a trail of them from his front door to the bedroom.  When his girl got home from work, she followed the trail of sweets to her bed and there was a huge red paper heart with the words “Marry Me?”

Last year we had a man (who is now happily married) bring his girlfriend to Lake Tahoe for the Valentine’s Day weekend.  He had help from friends who came up the day before because he couldn’t pull this off from long distance alone.  The friends scooped out a patch of snow in the forest to form a heart, put red rose petals in the middle along with the couple’s initials. They left behind a bottle of wine and two glasses and a blanket.  Then, while the friends were finishing up the secret mission, the guy and his gal went for a walk to enjoy Lake Tahoe’s nature. They come across the heart and wine and he asks her to marry him.  Sweet!  You don’t have to be in Lake Tahoe for this, and this year there wouldn’t have been enough snow, but you get the idea!

Glow in the dark …you’re going to love this!  Get some glow in the dark craft paper and cut out the words “will you marry me” and put them on your ceiling.  Then, at night when the lights are out, the letters will pop our your question.  Of course, you’ll need to have the ring standing by!

Here is a great Lake Tahoe ski proposal:  Your friends have to be in on it.  They’re in the chairlift in front of you or waiting at the top of the lift.  You’re “soaring” over the snow and through the trees with picturesque Lake Tahoe in the background.  You pop the question and, if your friends are in front of you, they can start taking photos.  Or, if they’re waiting at the top, they’ll have a bottle of your favorite champagne waiting.  And what’s even more perfect, our office is at the bottom of the Heavenly Gondola…come on over and start planning your special wedding in Lake Tahoe!

If you get engaged in Lake Tahoe this weekend (or any time) we have photographers who can put together a great engagement photo package.

You’re engaged (congratulations), now what?

Valentine’s Day Weddings in South Lake Tahoe

winter wedding in lake tahoe

lake-tahoe-wedding-venue-sleigh-2February 14 is just around the corner (can you believe it?).  About 20 years ago there were hundreds of couples in Lake Tahoe every Valentine’s Day, just to get married. You’d see a little chapel with a line out the door, just for people to have their wedding on this special date, even if their ceremony was only 10 minutes.

Fast forward to 2015 and we no longer see the long lines of couples getting married on Valentine’s Day in South Lake Tahoe.  What do we see instead?

Valentine’s Day Weddings

Instead of the long lines at a low budget, quickie wedding chapel, our couples are coming for a wedding just as they do all year long…special wedding venues with great views and plenty of room for their guests to watch them say “I do.”

In fact, its not a busy wedding day which is quite surprising since it falls on a Saturday this year!  If you want to get married on February 14, 2015, call us because we’ll be able to create a fabulous wedding for you!  Many of the most popular venues are still available. Get married at Emerald Bay, the Ski Resort or the Country Club!  If we have snow by then, you can also get married on our sleigh, complete with a big heart.

You can check out Pinterest to for some great Valentine’s Day wedding ideas, from attire to decor.

Valentine’s Day Engagements

A lot of couples get engaged on Valentine’s Day!  The week following the holiday is one of our busiest and the phone normally never stops ringing!  To get the best selection of the remaining wedding dates we have left in 2015, call early.  We’re already starting to get inquiries about 2016 so if you’re set on a wedding date at a specific wedding venue, call early too!

Get married on skis (or snowboards) in Lake Tahoe!

winter weddings in lake tahoe

Just by looking at the photos in this article you can tell how amazingly beautiful a wedding at a ski resort in Lake Tahoe can be!

Outdoor Weddings in Lake Tahoe

Many couples get married outdoors in Lake Tahoe during the summer, but have you ever considered getting married on the slopes during the winter?  Not only can you get married at Emerald Bay, the beach or our lake front Country Club during the winter, you can also get married at our local ski resort.

Our minister has a ski pass so he’ll head up on the slopes with you.  You can ski and ride until you find the perfect lake tahoe ski weddingsspot, or, you can have a predetermined wedding area in case you’re being met by friends and family. There is a gondola that takes everyone up the hill to an observation deck, so if you have non-skiers in your group they can take this up the mountain and meet you there.

What if it is a Drought Year?

Of course we can never predict what the weather or snow will be like when you book a wedding far in advance, but with the ski resort’s snow making abilities they actually get a really good amount of snow at the top. As long as you’re not planning a ski wedding in November or April (the beginning and end of winter ski seasons) we should be able to accommodate you.

winter weddings in tahoeWhat’s perfect about our being a wedding planner in Lake Tahoe is our ability to be flexible and change a wedding venue at the last minute. If it is stormy and the resort is closed, we can move you to the beach where the winds and snow would be greatly reduced, or even to an indoor chapel we use.

Get Married on Skis (or wearing shoes) in Lake Tahoe

How to Pick Your Wedding Date in Lake Tahoe

wedding photos lake tahoe

wedding photos lake tahoeYou’re engaged (congratulations!) and now it’s time to start planning a wedding. Many couples that we hear from don’t have a set date in mind but they do have their favorite Lake Tahoe wedding venue picked out. Since we are a destination wedding planner, and certain times of the year fill up quickly, it is very important to settle on your wedding date early in the process of planning your fabulous wedding in Lake Tahoe!

Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall?

At Lake Front Wedding we plan weddings all year long, seven days a week.

Winter weddings – Believe it or not, we have a lot of couples that want an outdoor wedding in the winter!  While the selection of wedding venues is smaller there are still some great, romantic choices. You can get married at Emerald Bay or at the Ski Resort as well as a few beaches.  Indoor weddings are available at many locations as well, including our waterfront country club and intimate chapel.  Weekends can be busy in Lake Tahoe will all of the skiers and you never know about the weather, but that shouldn’t stop you!  Busier weekends include Christmas/New Year’s, Martin Luther King Weekend and President’s Weekend.

Spring weddings – Ah, spring…love is in the air as is the promise of new and fresh beginnings. What a perfect time to get married in Lake Tahoe! While not all of our outdoor venues are available in spring, many do offer wedding opportunities!  We never know when the snow will melt but we do know when the average temperatures start to rise. Early spring weddings need a bit more flexibility due to weather and venue closures, but we can still plan you the perfect wedding. Room rates are generally lower in spring and the town is slower, making it easier for your out-of-town guests to plan an affordable weekend in Lake Tahoe for your wedding. Weekends to be aware of when planning you big day is the weekend of Mother’s Day and Memorial Day since your guests may have other plans and the holiday brings out more visitors.

Summer weddings – These fill up quickly, especially those to be held on a Saturday. A trend we’re seeing are more Friday weddings so the wedding couple and their guests can plan for a whole weekend of activities at the lake after the “I Do’s” are said.  This is great news as many summertime wedding venues in Lake Tahoe are still available on Fridays as well as on mid-weeks days.  Summer weddings in Tahoe are beautiful, with the blue skies, the warmer temperatures and a plethora of activities and vendors to chose from. Father’s Day may not be your best choice for a wedding day. Stay away from the 4th of July for your wedding, simply because of the crowds that come to Lake Tahoe. Lodging may be an issue for you and your guests, as well as many beach venues being unavailable for weddings. The same issues arise on Labor Day weekend because of the Fireworks in Lake Tahoe and the people that hit the town for an end of summer celebration.

Fall weddings – Fall is one of our favorite times of the year to plan weddings!  More venues become available after the summer rush and the weather is normally perfect.  Lake Tahoe is known for our Indian Summers and outdoor weddings can actually have nicer weather than our summer ones.  Fall brings with it great colors to have in your wedding and our scenery with it’s color change is a great backdrop to your ceremony and reception. Your guests will be happy too, not only to spend the time with you at your wedding, but to be able to plan a more affordable getaway and to have fewer crowds to deal with. There aren’t any holidays to be aware of when picking your date in fall, but there are events. The annual Salmon Festival and Oktoberfest would create problems if you wanted our historic estate wedding venue (held on same weekend).  Lake Tahoe gets overflow visitors from Reno’s big events of the Balloon Races and Street Vibrations, but not enough to really create an issue.

A quick look at our local tourism website will show you significant events in Lake Tahoe that you might want to be aware of.  Perhaps your group all enjoys golfing, then you might not want to have your wedding during our annual celebrity golf tournament, or many you would because they could attend.

Your Wedding Date in Lake Tahoe

We’ve given you an idea of what our four seasons are like, but that may still not help you in how to zero in on the right date.  The best thing to do is call our experienced wedding consultants and we can help you narrow down your choices.

We got a call today from a bride who wants April 5 and no other day…perfect because we can make it happen!

No matter the day, your wedding in Lake Tahoe will be a beautiful experience and one to relive in a lifetime of memories. Here are some helpful hints to a successful destination wedding:
